Britt Di Vita
Profile
Britt obtained a BSc degree in Speech and Language Pathology (2019), followed by a MSc degree in Theoretical and Experimental Psychology (2023) from Ghent University. During her masters, she did a research internship at the Experimental Psychopathology & Affective Neuroscience Lab (EPAN Lab, Radboud University Nijmegen), where she looked into the role of cognitive effort in psychopathology. Her master's thesis focused on how cognitive effort affects reinforcement learning in the context of psychopathological symptoms. These experiences led to a broader interest in how human health, both mental and physical, interacts with cognitive functioning.
In October 2023, Britt joined the Ghent Health Psychology Lab as a doctoral student. Her research, under supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefaan Van Damme, focuses on how chronic pain affects cognitive functioning, with particular interest in the underlying motivational mechanisms. To accomplish this, she employs experimental methods, consisting of behavioural tasks combined with electrophysiological and psychophysiological measures. It is expected that the project will advance the understanding of pain-related cognitive interference and will provide new routes for interventions.
