Maité Van Alboom
Profile
Maité graduated as a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at Ghent University in July 2018. During her studies she became increasingly interested in the field of Health Psychology. Maité wrote her Masters dissertation on the role of fear-avoidance and acceptance of pain in recovery from surgery in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. This topic definitely confirmed her interest in health psychology and the implementation of research in general.
Since February 2019 she is a member of the Ghent Health Psychology Lab in the Department of Experimental-Clinical and Health Psychology at Ghent University and is working as a PhD student.
The project, supervised by her promotor Prof. Dr. Liesbet Goubert and co-promotor Prof. Dr. Piet Bracke, is entitled "The role of the social network and stigma in the context of chronic pain: A mixed method approach". The project focuses on the influence of structural and functional network features on the one hand and stigma on the other hand upon the psychological wellbeing and functioning of individuals with chronic pain. There will be a close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Sónia Bernardes and Prof. Dr. Lesley Verhofstadt.
